How to connect a hosted AI client
Hosted AI clients connect with Sign in with Drum. You add Drum to the client, the client opens Drum, and you approve the connection there. There is no token to copy.
For Claude Code, Cursor’s desktop editor, VS Code, Codex or your own code, see Connect a client with an API token instead.
Before you begin
You need:
- A Drum user in the account the assistant will work in
- At least one API permission on your role (
api_read,api_create,api_updateorapi_delete), or to be an account admin.api_readis enough for an assistant that only reads. Add the others for the changes it should make - A client that supports Sign in with Drum (see Supported clients)
The address for every client is:
https://app.getdrum.com/api/v1/mcp
Add Drum to your client
Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop)
- Open Settings, then Connectors.
- Select Add custom connector.
- Enter the name
Drumand the URLhttps://app.getdrum.com/api/v1/mcp. Leave the client id and secret empty. - Select Add, then Connect. Claude opens Drum in your browser.
- Approve the connection in Drum.
- In a chat, open the tools menu and check that Drum is turned on.
A connector you add on claude.ai is also on Claude Desktop and the Claude mobile apps. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner may have to add Drum for the organisation first. Each person then connects their own Drum user.
ChatGPT
- Open ChatGPT’s settings and find the section for apps and connectors.
- Add a custom connector (it may be called an app or an MCP server), with the name
Drumand the URLhttps://app.getdrum.com/api/v1/mcp. Choose OAuth if asked for an authentication type. - Connect it. ChatGPT opens Drum in your browser.
- Approve the connection in Drum.
Whether you can add a custom connector depends on your ChatGPT plan and on your workspace’s settings. See OpenAI’s help for where the setting is on your plan.
Grok
- In Grok, add a connector with the URL
https://app.getdrum.com/api/v1/mcp. - Connect it, and approve the connection in Drum.
Cursor hosted agents
- In the MCP settings of your Cursor agents on cursor.com, add a server with the URL
https://app.getdrum.com/api/v1/mcp. - Connect it, and approve the connection in Drum.
The Cursor desktop editor cannot use Sign in with Drum. Use an API token there.
Microsoft Copilot Studio
- In your agent, add a tool and choose Model Context Protocol.
- Enter the server name
Drumand the URLhttps://app.getdrum.com/api/v1/mcp. - Under authentication, choose OAuth 2.0, then Dynamic discovery.
- Create the connection, and approve it in Drum.
Approve the connection in Drum
- Sign in to Drum if asked.
- On Connect client to Drum, check the Client and Verified origin. They should name the client you are connecting.
- Read the list under This connection will be able to.
- Under Account, select the account the assistant may use.
- Under Toolsets, select what the assistant needs. My work is selected to begin with. See Choose toolsets.
- Select Approve.
Drum returns you to the client, and the Drum tools appear there. Ask something simple to check, such as “Which Drum projects am I working on?”.
The connection now shows under Profile, then Connected Agents. To let the same client use a second account, connect it again and choose the other account.
If it does not work
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| “This client could not be verified. Only supported AI clients can connect to Drum.” | The client cannot use Sign in with Drum. Use an API token if it accepts one |
| “This connection request has expired.” | Start the connection again from the client |
| The client asks for a client id and secret | Leave them empty. If the client requires them, it is not supported yet |
